How to Create Wellness Retreat Vibes at Home
Wellness retreats are magical because they make it easy to take extravagantly good care of ourselves.
We’re whisked away from the chaos of daily life and dropped into a beautiful bubble of luxurious self care— with healthy meals, daily movement, time in nature, restful sleep, self reflection, and soulful connections all at our fingertips.
If only we could live like this all the time, right??
As a wellness retreat curator, you might expect me to tell you that retreats are a MUST if you want to elevate your sense of well-being.
But that’s not exactly true 😱
The truth is: retreats are an amazing way to step away from your routine and reconnect with the things that truly make you feel nourished. But you do NOT need to hop on a plane or drop the big bucks on a retreat to elevate your well-being.
In fact, everyday self-care is much more powerful than one mega-dose of wellness, once a year!
I’m all about teaching people how to integrate wellness rituals into their daily lives, so you they can feel more vitality and balance more regularly — and for free! So let’s dive in…
15 Wellness Retreat Rituals to Integrate Into Your Daily Life
The key ingredients that make retreats so magical are actually super simple, and can be easily integrated into your real life back home. Here’s a few easy rituals to start with, inspired by the Reboot Retreats that I host in France:
1. Screen-Free Mornings: No Phone for the First Hour of the Day
Your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. Instead of reaching for your phone the moment you wake up, give yourself the gift of a screen-free first hour. This quiet time allows your mind to wake up naturally, without the immediate influx of notifications and news. You’ll start your day feeling more calm and focused, guaranteed.
2. Get Outside for Sunlight and Fresh Air in the Morning
Sunlight is a natural mood booster, and helps regulate your circadian rhythm. Stepping outside in the morning, even if it’s just for a few minutes, can do wonders for your energy levels and mental clarity. Practice starting your day with sunlight before screen light, and notice the difference it makes.
3. Take a Few Conscious Breaths and Set an Intention for the Day
Start your day with a few deep, connected breaths. Use this opportunity to check in with yourself and set a specific intention for the day. Maybe you want to invite in courage, or focus, or tenderness. Or maybe you want to pull an oracle card for inspiration. Just the simple act of naming an intention will help you stay grounded, no matter what comes your way.
4. Spend Time Journaling Before Jumping Into Work
Before diving into your daily routine, take a few minutes (really, 5 mins is all it takes) to get your thoughts out of your head and onto paper. Think of it like a conversation with yourself—it’s a way to check in, reflect, and start your day with more mental space and focus.
5. Swap Coffee for Tea
If coffee is your default morning beverage, consider taking a week off and trying tea instead. Tea provides a gentler caffeine boost without the buzzy-brain effect, and it’s also packed with antioxidants. Plus, the ritual of brewing and sipping tea can be a calming way to start your day.
6. Declutter Your Environment for a Clear Mind
I don’t know about you, but I feel instantly calm and inspired when I’m in a zen, minimalist environment. A cluttered space can make our mind feel messy, too. Pick an area of your home that you spend a lot of time in, and take a moment to tidy it up and make it more inspiring for you. It’s amazing what a simple change of scenery can do.
7. Take Movement Breaks Every Hour
Instead of checking “exercise” off your list with a workout class during lunch or after work, try taking movement breaks every hour instead. Regular movement is actually much better for our health than one big burst. So, set an hourly alarm, and challenge yourself to do 5-10 mins of movement when it goes off — a quick stretch, some jumping jacks or pushups, a walk around the block, a few yoga poses, there’s no wrong way to do it. You’ll be amazed at how energized your mind and body feel.
8. Fill Your Plate with Fresh Veggies, Protein, and Healthy Fats
What we eat becomes our energy — our life force! So, if you want to bring your best energy to the world, focus on putting the best quality fuel in your body. At my retreats, it’s all about mixing and matching these key ingredients: vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats. You can easily do this at home, too!
9. Eat Meals Without Multitasking
Multitasking during meals is the norm nowadays. But when we aren’t fully focused on our meal, we don’t chew thoroughly, or digest properly — not to mention, we miss out on the full sensory experience of our meal. Challenge yourself to eat one meal without any distractions: savor each bite, notice the flavors, and see how it makes you feel afterwards.
10. Socialize Over Festive Mocktails with Pretty Garnishes
Retreats also remind us that we don’t need alcohol to have fun. Taking a few days off drinking also works wonders on our sleep and energy levels. At Reboot Retreat, we design daily mocktails with non-alcoholic spirits, herbs, flowers, and fancy ice cubes to elevate the experience. This way, we get to say cheers with a festive drink and wake up feeling fresh the next day. Try it at home!
11. Take a Bath While Listening to a Sound Healing Playlist
If you have a bath at home, treat yourself to this weekly relaxation ritual. Light some candles, add some essential oil or salts to your bath, and play a sound healing playlist while you soak. It’s a luxurious and healthy way to decompress. Bonus: you’ll probably sleep better too!
12. Make Time for Reading Instead of Scrolling
Scrolling through social media or the news before bed can overstimulate your mind and disrupt your sleep (and quality sleep is the foundation of well-being). Instead, make time for reading—a book, a magazine, anything that calms vs. stimulates your mind. Minimize artifical light in your sleeping area, as much as possible.
13. Send Love to a Friend
How often do we think of our friends or family, but don’t reach out. Having a daily ritual of sending a note of gratitude to a friend will deepen your connections and boost your mood. It can be a simple “just thinking of you and how much I appreciate your (fill in the blank)”, sharing a favorite memory or photo, or checking in to see how they are. It only takes one minute, but goes a long way to strengthen relationships.
14. Create a Relaxing (Screen-Free) Bedtime Ritual
Just as your morning sets the tone for your day, your bedtime ritual sets the tone for your sleep — a wellness fundamental. Practice spending the last hour before bed, screen-free. Instead, try stretching, listening to music, or doing a meditation. This will dramatically improve your sleep, your energy, your life!
15. Do a Yoga Nidra Meditation to Fall Asleep
If you have trouble falling asleep, try a yoga nidra meditation. This guided practice is designed to take you into a state of deep relaxation, by releasing tension step by step throughout your body. By taking the focus off your thoughts, you’ll drift off to sleep easier. It’s the perfect retreat at-home ritual.
There you have it—15 simple, powerful rituals to help you bring wellness retreat vibes into your daily life. Remember, you definitely don’t have to do them all at once! Start with one or two that feel fun and easy for you, and build from there. The key is consistency and finding what feels good. Happy DIY retreating!
